Liguria, Italy

Liguria, often called the “Italian Riviera”, is one of Ital's smallest regions, most fashionable resorts and yet the country’s largest and liveliest commercial ports.  It’s a land of terraced hillsides, sophisticated, seemingly endless seaside resorts, rocky coves and cozy inlets.  It’s a place where narrow alleys stretch from picturesque medieval towns up to the hills, and where lemon trees, herbs, flowers, almonds and pines fill the air with sweet-smelling breezes.

Pieve di Teco, Liguria Italy - LavanderFamous people like Ezra Pound, Lord Byron, Shelley and Ernest Hemingway loved Liguria.

And so do a multitude of moviemakers, drawn to the unique atmosphere of romance, adventure, sophistication and elegance for films depicting the rich and famous dashing from Monte Carlo to Rome.
Located between Tuscany and France, Liguria is divided into two parts -- the western coastline, Riviera Ponente -- a thin strip of coastal plain stretching to the French border, and the eastern coastline, Riviera Levante, a rugged and natural coast descending into the sea.  Between the two coastlines lies the capitol and largest port of Genoa, Genova, known for its refined palaces of gold-ceiling rooms and precious furnishings and as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, Andrea Doria, who made Genova one of the greatest Mediterranean powers, and Niccolo Paganini, the great composer and virtuoso violinist.

Protected by the Alps and Apennines from the fogs and chills of the north, Liguria offers year ‘round enjoyment.  It is a paradise for lovers of the mountains and the sea, for sport enthusiasts wanting to enjoy trekking, mountain biking, sailing, or golf; for cultural enthusiasts who delight in the harmonious blend of history, art and tradition, and for food and wine connoisseurs who seek the culinary specialties of a region with as much enthusiasm.
